Arrange a local exchange with fewer risks

Practical steps for meeting and recognising suspicious requests.

Agree on the details before leaving

Confirm the item, condition, price and meeting point. Where possible, choose a busy public place in daylight. If home collection is necessary, tell someone you trust about your plans and limit the personal information you share.

Do not act under pressure

Be wary of urgency, unfamiliar payment links and requests for codes. Never install remote-control tools or share bank credentials. A screenshot alone is not proof of received funds: check your own banking app.

Stop when something does not add up

Do not hand over the item until the agreed payment is clarified, and avoid advance payments when you cannot assess the risk. Keep relevant transaction messages without publishing personal details. No checklist removes every risk; cancel the meeting if you feel uncomfortable.

Before you continue

  • Terms and meeting confirmed
  • No suspicious links, passwords or codes
  • Payment checked independently
  • Cancel if you are unsure
