Buying well
What to check before buying used electronics

Practical checks for operation, accessories and account locks before you decide.
Agree on what you can test
Ask for the exact model, known repairs, battery condition and included accessories. If proof of purchase exists, ask to see it with unnecessary personal details hidden. Missing paperwork alone does not establish wrongdoing: consider all the information and walk away if unsure.
Test the important functions
With the seller’s permission, test the display, buttons, charging, audio, cameras and relevant connections. Check keyboard and ports on a laptop. Do not open personal files or install unfamiliar apps. Postpone the purchase if an essential function cannot be checked.
Make sure you can set it up
The owner should remove accounts and activation locks using the manufacturer’s process before handing over the device. Do not accept promises of later unlocking or bypass protections. Never share passwords or verification codes.
